Invincible is a superhero series written by Robert Kirkman and published through Image Comics. It follows Mark Grayson, a teenager whose father is the world’s strongest hero. Read the volumes by number, from Family Matters to The End of All Things, Part 2. The story builds and the early volumes set up characters you will meet again.

Compendiums

Image also collects the series in three large paperbacks called Compendiums: Compendium One covers issues #0 to 47 (volumes 1 to 9), Compendium Two covers volumes 10 to 17 and Compendium Three covers volumes 18 to 25. They hold the same story, so pick whichever format you prefer. Check each listing to see which volumes it includes.

Questions people ask

How many Invincible volumes are there?

There are 25 paperback volumes, collecting all 144 issues, from Family Matters to The End of All Things, Part 2. The comic is complete, so there is nothing to wait for. Image also sells three Compendium editions and other formats that regroup the same story, so check each listing for the volumes it contains.

What order should I read Invincible in?

Read the volumes in number order. They tell one continuous story, and the early books introduce characters and events that matter later. If you buy the Compendiums instead, read them in order too: One covers volumes 1 to 9, Two covers 10 to 17 and Three covers 18 to 25.

Is the Invincible comic finished?

Yes. The series ended with issue #144, and the story is collected in 25 paperbacks. That makes it a good choice if you prefer reading a complete story to following a monthly release. Check the publisher’s page if you want to confirm the current editions and formats.

Who wrote and drew Invincible?

Robert Kirkman wrote it. Cory Walker drew the first seven issues, and Ryan Ottley became the main artist from issue #8, with Walker returning for some issues. Bill Crabtree was the colorist and Russ Wooton the letterer. It was published through Image Comics under Kirkman’s Skybound label.

Is Invincible for kids?

No. Invincible contains graphic violence and mature themes, and we place it in our adult band. The lead is a teenager, but the comic is written for adult readers. If a young reader wants superheroes, our kids hub and Spider-Man pages list gentler choices. Always look through a copy first.

Should I buy the Compendium or single volumes?

It depends on how you like to read. Compendiums are thick paperbacks that save shelf space and collect many volumes in one book. Single volumes are easier to carry and to try one at a time. The story is the same, so start with volume 1 if you are not yet sure you will like it.
